ARTISTS STATEMENT

I am an artist with a background in architecture, trained in portraiture and now focused on figurative painting. Working usually in oil paint, I use stream-of-consciousness to generate ideas and arrange compositions using digital cut-and-paste techniques before letting my intuition guide the painting process and final outcome. As well as traditional and contemporary painting I am influenced by the contrast of monochromatic paste-ups on the vibrant colours of graffiti. My work explores both the darker and lighter aspects of my psyche and is shaped by the chaos, intensity and confusion of my exposure to the world through media. I am interested in disruption, layering, and contrast, finding humor even in dark subjects, while balancing technical skill with emotional depth (or lack of) and spontaneity.
